Results are in from the September Showdown!
Philadelphia’s Rami “The Arabian Nightmare” Ibrahim defended his WKA 132 lb. North American Pro title for the 4th time tonight at Take On Productions “September Showdown” in New York City. It was a great night of Muay Thai action as Take On Productions continues to grow and showcase an upcoming crop of champions in the art of Muay Thai.
Click here to check out the results from the night’s bouts.
Rami’s opponent was the very tough and very talented Philippe Allaire Landreville out of Canada’s Tristar Gym. For every strike Ibrahim landed, Allaire quickly responded with a strike of his own in order to even things up on the score card.
Towards the end of round 4, Ibrahim cornered his Canadian opponent and opened up with a flurry of punches. During this onslaught of punches, Ibrahim landed a big left hook that floored Landreville and forced the referee to give him a standing 8 count. Ibrahim’s hands continued to land but Landreville wasn’t far behind with some very strong body kicks. During one exchange Landreville somehow cut Ibrahim just above the hairline. As blood poured down the side of Ibrahim’s head, both fighters continued to battle it out in center ring, throwing big punches, kicks, and knees. At the end of the night Rami was simply the better fighter in the judges eyes and took home the decision win in what was an exciting main event!
Ibrahim’s professional record now moves to 16-5. Stay tuned for our exclusive interview with Ibrahim taken minutes after his exciting 5 round battle.
Prior to the main event, the Take On “September Showdown” card was full of talented amateur fighters that put on some incredible performances that showcased talent far beyond what their records indicated. In a stellar Muay Thai debut Juan Rosario from NYC’s Camp Undefeated came out showing some incredible talent landing vicious body kicks and leg kicks almost at will. And in what was, in my opinion, the fight of the night, Sitan Gym’s Ciaran McAllister put on a masterful performance in what was also his amateur debut against The Wat’s Lacey Maloney. Both Maloney and McAllister showcased good Muay Thai technique, but it was McAllister’s devastating kicks and some brutal knees in the clinch that gave McAllister the decision win.
The Co-Main event of the evening also gave fans a lot to cheer for as NYC’s Rudy Felix faced off with Canada’s Khris Collins. In a 3 round battle, Rudy showcased the talent that had him previously take home an award as Take On’s 2010 Fight of the Year winner. Collins, who during pre fight interviews stated that he “loved to clinch” definitely showed that he was the stronger of the two in the clinch as the few times both fighters tied up he was able to muscle Felix around and dump him to the canvas. He also scored with some big sweeps but it was Felix’s overall ability to stay out of Collins’ clinch and land body kicks and head kicks from almost every angle imaginable that won him the fight.
