New Halts For RTC Makes Efforts to Regulate Traffic in Capital

The Guntur police and APSRTC decided to start four boarding points in the city for the convenience of commuters and to avoid stopping of bus on the roads.

Earlier, the APSRTC busses used to stop in front of the NTR bus station on the Guntur Vijayawada road and a majority of the commuters used to stay on the road to catch busses, creating frequent traffic jams. Now the commuters have to board the busses in the NTR bus-station or at the newly proposed four boarding points in the city.

Commuters P. Raghu, N. Sasi and others said that earlier there was an APSRTC ticket counter at Peda Kakani.

Commuters who board the bus in various areas used to get tickets there, but the APSRTC officials changed the ticket counter to the NTR bus-station a few months ago. They said that as every bus will stop at this counter, the public forget entry into the NTR bus station. They said that the bus station is a safe place to board busses and welcomed the decision.

Guntur Urban superintendent of police Sarvasireshth Tripathi said that four bus boarding points at the end of Manipuram flyover towards Vijayawada side, at ITC centre for busses to Sattenapalli, Narasaraopeta and others, Palnadu bus stand for busses towards Ongole, Nellore, Tirupati and others and Wolf Ground for busses towards old Amaravati and capital region were set up.

He said that a big water pipeline occupied half of the service road of Manipuram flyover and it was recently removed by the Guntur Municipal Corporation for free flow Of traffic.

Mr Tripathi said that a Command Control Centre will be started at the ITC centre to monitor and regulate the traffic movement through CCTV cameras and sought the cooperation of the public for regulation of traffic with the use the four boarding points.

Note: Traffic police do not allow an APSRTC busses from stopping in front of the NTR bus station to reduce obstruction of traffic on Vijayawada-Guntur Main Road.
