VISAKHAPATNAM: Investment Region awaits CCEA nods, Andhra Pradesh, along with Telangana, Karnataka and Odisha, is await. ing the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) for almost a year to set up the much talked about IT Investment Region (ITIR). It has been a year since the union IT ministry submitted amendments to the ITIR policy 2008 and there has been not much progress.

Though ITIRs for Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, and Bengaluru were in principle approved by the then UPA government, the BJP-led NDA government had “A note on Amendments delayed the projects seek to the ITIR Policy 2008.

“A note on Amendments to the ITIR policy Resolution 2008 incorprating recommendations of the Committee of Secretaries has been submitted to the Cabinet Secretariat for consideration of CCEA,”Union minister of state for Electronics and IT, PP Chaudhary told parliament recently responding to a query on ITIR proposals.

It was around June last year that the amendment to the policy was submitted to CCEA. It is learnt that the proposals to set up ITIRs will be submitted for approval of CCEA after the approval of Amendments in IITIR Policy Resolution 2008.

Inadequate infrastructure has been identified as one of the constraining factors being faced by the IT industry and in order to address the same, the Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DeitY) has notified the policy for setting up of ITIRs in the country.

ITIR would be endowed With excellent infrastructure and Would reap the benefits of costing, networking and greater effi. ciency through use of common infrastructure and support services.

Developing ITIR in Vizag will also help the youth in the other two districts of north Andhra, namely Viziangaram and Srikakulam, to find IT. related jobs as it will attract more companies to setup operations here.

They have been, until now, either going to Hyderabad, Chennai or Bengaluru for IT related jobs. The proposal to develop ITIR, at Vizag, was okayed in principle in August 2013 during the UPA-II regime.

Note: Inadequate infrastructure has been identified as one of the constaining factors in vizag.
