December Showdown
Friday, December 16, 2011
This past weekend graced Muay Thai fans of all calibers with a chance to witness great 8 point striking action. On Friday, Dec. 16th, Muay Thai is Life was once again invited to cover Take On’s latest Muay Thai event in New York City. The “Rising Stars” 155 lb. 8-man tournament event was an all amateur and B-Class amateur affair that showcased some of the best rising talent in the northeast. For years now, gyms such as The Wat, Sitan Gym, 5 Points, and Cool Hearts Muay Thai…to name a few, have consistently demonstrated that they are breeding grounds for some of the best Muay Thai talent in the Northeast and the country. The quality training the students at these gyms receive under the masterful tutelage of their respective instructors is apparent the minute they step in the ring and do battle. In a night where all fights brought excitement from competitors in all shapes and sizes, 3 fights ended with big KO’s, one of them a methodical dismantling via brutal leg kicks that conjured up memories of Ernesto Hoosts vicious leg kick KO’s in K-1′s heyday.
In the end, save for an unfortunate injury that cut the evenings main event short and without a doubt sets up an eventual rematch, the night was another success for the burgeoning Queens-based promotion.
