Battle at Bally's II

Saturday, August 11, 2012

Another Take On Productions event has come and gone, and my wallet, my voice, and my brain are still recovering from what was an action packed weekend in Atlantic City. “Battle at Bally’s II”was nothing short of spectacular as all fighters, both amateur and pro, put it all on the line and showcased that the level of Muay Thai in America continues to rise. (Eric Rivera

The night featured at hotly anticipated main event and co-main event in the professional ranks and had two titles on the line. "Battle at Bally's II" had eight spectacular knockouts by various strikes, along with hard fought bouts that went the distance leaving the fans clamoring for more. Take-On Productions continues to put together great Muay Thai events that feature high level striking with blistering kicks, punches, knees and elbows.

In the main event, Jay Matias from Sitan Gym defeated Douglas Ahammer via TKO in round two of a 132 lb fight. Matias proved without a doubt that he is a force to be reckoned with as he took the fight to Ahammer almost from the opening bell. Matias was the stronger of the two fighters and his strikes did more damage as he landed body kicks and mixed up some combos with his fists. Matias continued his attack into the second round landing a series of strikes both with his feet and his hands finishing up his attack with a short elbow that landed flush on the back of Ahammer's head. The referee called a halt to the bout after that awarding the win to Matias who had a dominant performance and showed he is ready for even bigger challenges.

In the co-main event, in a rematch that ended in a controversial draw, Deshawn Robinson of America's Finest Kickboxing defeated Sean Hinds of C3 Athletics/Mushin MMA via KO in round one. Robinson left no doubt this time as to who the winner was as he landed a perfect left cross on Hinds that send him face first to the canvas ending the fight. Leading up to the knockout punch, Robinson continually moved forward and threw punches in bunches all with the intent to knockout Hinds. It was a solid win for Robinson who has turned into one of the sport's most entertaining fighters.

December Showdown

Friday, December 16, 2011

This past weekend graced Muay Thai fans of all calibers with a chance to witness great 8 point striking action. On Friday, Dec. 16th, Muay Thai is Life was once again invited to cover Take On’s latest Muay Thai event in New York City. The “Rising Stars” 155 lb. 8-man tournament event was an all amateur and B-Class amateur affair that showcased some of the best rising talent in the northeast. For years now, gyms such as The Wat, Sitan Gym, 5 Points, and Cool Hearts Muay Thai…to name a few, have consistently demonstrated that they are breeding grounds for some of the best Muay Thai talent in the Northeast and the country. The quality training the students at these gyms receive under the masterful tutelage of their respective instructors is apparent the minute they step in the ring and do battle. In a night where all fights brought excitement from competitors in all shapes and sizes, 3 fights ended with big KO’s, one of them a methodical dismantling via brutal leg kicks that conjured up memories of Ernesto Hoosts vicious leg kick KO’s in K-1′s heyday.

In the end, save for an unfortunate injury that cut the evenings main event short and without a doubt sets up an eventual rematch, the night was another success for the burgeoning Queens-based promotion.
